Key Points for Selecting a Japanese Diaper

Introduction

Japanese products for children are famous for their high quality and relevance.

Japanese diapers are one of the most popular and sought-after Japanese baby products all over the world. Many mothers opt for Japanese diapers for babies (newborns including) when choosing between different manufacturers. The most popular brands are Moony and Pamper.

An important plus of Japanese companies, in addition to high quality, is innovative technologies. For example, many Japanese diapers have a special inner absorbent layer that allows them to convert moisture to gel - delicate baby's skin always remains dry. Another great feature of Japanese diapers is its good breathability. Breathability is an incredibly important feature to keep the skin of your baby happy. It can drastically reduce the incidence of diaper rash and keep the skin of your baby feeling fresher. Most baby diapers in Japan are highly breathable.

A wide range of sizes is another plus of Japanese diapers: from XXS, for the smallest of the family. Japanese diapers best care for skin. Leg cuffs are gentle and hypoallergenic to help maintain healthy-looking skin. In addition, leg cuffs have a special leak barrier to stop moisture from spilling from the diaper. Strips of japanese diapers provide a secure fit.

Moony

Best Known For: Affordability, character design, and very soft which is great for sensitive skin.

Moony is made by Unicharm, a Japanese company that also produces several brands of sanitary napkins and adult diapers. So, if leakage is your biggest concern, you might want to pick up a package of Moony diapers.

Moony is also popular for newborns as the waistband has a unique indentation to accommodate an infant’s sensitive belly button. Like Merries, Moony also has a “Natural” diapers lineup made of organic cotton and features “Pooh” as its diaper design.

Features:

1. Moony Diapers Pants are manufactured using pure materials that are non-toxic. They do not have potentially harmful substances such as formaldehyde, phthalates or petroleum-based products. They also do not use lotions, fragrances or synthetic aromas.

2. To ensure your baby’s comfort, the top layer of the diaper is made from a felt microfiber, which lessens irritation and friction by forty percent. The inner layer is made with palm wood fibers, which provides maximum absorbency.

3. There is an extra layer of “Air Silky” fibers that make the diaper highly breathable and provide up to twelve hours of protection.

Pampers

Pampers is perhaps the most popular brand of diapers in Japan mainly because of its great loyalty program. In addition, most hospitals and birth clinics in Japan use Pampers because of the partnership that Pampers established.

Pampers diapers are made with ultra-absorbent materials that can hold up to 12 hours of wetness, keeping babies dry and comfortable for longer periods. Softness and comfort: Pampers diapers are designed with soft, breathable materials that help prevent diaper rash and keep babies comfortable.

Features:
  • - Umbilical Cord Notch. Protects your newborn baby's belly.
  • - Pampers Wetness Indicator. Shows when your baby's wet & might need a change.
  • - Gentle on Delicate Skin. Hypoallergenic and 0% parabens & latex* (*natural rubber)
  • - Soft, stretchy sides. Helps the diaper stay in place, flexing with baby's every move.

Pampers absorb urine with its proprietary absorbent gel which maintains a low acidity level inside the diaper. The elastic waistband creates a snug fit around the waist and legs without hampering a growing baby’s movement.

How to Read Diaper Sizing

Diaper sizes in Japan are typically expressed by letter sizes (i.e. S, M, L) and a baby’s weight. Some Japanese diaper brands may also determine size by a baby’s developmental milestone (i.e. crawling, walking).

Sizes and fit vary from brand to brand so keep this in mind when shopping for diapers.

Wetness Indicator. You’ll notice that both tape and pull-up diapers in Japan have a yellow line or several stripes running down the middle and up the back of the baby’s diaper. This stripe will turn blue when wet, indicating that your baby’s diaper should be changed.

Removal and Disposal Convenience. The sides of pull-up diapers can be torn at the seams with little effort, making diaper changing a breeze. The tape tab on the back of pull-up diapers is used when rolling up a soiled diaper. Simply roll the diaper into a burrito, pull down the tape tab, and fasten the diaper shut. While tape-type diapers have the benefit of adjustable sizing thanks to the fasteners on either side.
